Day 23 and 24: Lounging, Eating and Lounging. Koh Yai Noi.

Day 23

Well we slept in, completely missing the sunrise. It wasn't all down to laziness though as we both woke up at 2am and neither of us could go back to sleep for no reason as all. Once we are up, we decide on exploring the island and so after breakfast we hire a bike and set off looking out for a hidden beach that we've been told about.

The main road is a mix of concrete and dirt and if you miss the holes, it isn't too bad to drive on. I'm on the look out for the turning and we've been driving for about 20 to 30 minutes when we pass through a market. Bit weird I think as there's only one of the island and it's nowhere near the beach, so we pull over at the next pier and do a map check, and realised we have completely misjudged and have driven about 3/4 of the way around the island. Whoops. It's not too bad though as the roads fun and we both enjoy the ride so we set off again and this time spot a tiny sign pointing left off the track which in my defence you can only see from the opposite direction to what we were travelling first time around.

The owner of our hut did warn us the road was only half paved but I didn't think it would be this bad. We have Tarmac for about half s mile and then it just disappears to rocks, holes and a lot of dirt made all the more interesting as we don't have any breaks. You can imagine we were a little tender when we finally got to the beach. But it was easily worth is as we arrived on a near deserted space with the bluest of waters. Ben swims as I snooze and we stay here for about an hour.

After an equally bumpy exit with even more no breaks fun, we ride off around the island again and stop off for a bit of lunch. After stuffing our faces we go sun bath again till the sun begins to cool. Ben's got a burger craving and finds a Canadian run restaurant a short walk from us to get his fix. It also has a pool table which we take over for the night with me learning the ropes and getting in a few wins. We walk back after a while and try and avoid the owners over friendly and really loud cat, who we have christened Mr Claws, which involves hiding in bushes and doing some great ninja hiding. Tonight we get woken up by a crazy French party and Mr Claws so tomorrow's sun rise isn't looking promising either.

Day 24

Slept in again, I swear I'm actually more tired doing nothing than I am after a full day at a fair. We are determined to get something done today so grab the bike and go off to find breakfast on route. We've heard a rumour that North of the island has some cheap mango sticky rice but we've come in the wrong season and we're out of luck so we pull in to a restaurant by one of the piers.

So far we haven't had too many language misinterpretations, struggling through with hand signals and broken English but today translation is a bit lost and my French toast comes out as a pile of chips but when would I ever complain about them for breakfast. We also manage to pick up a feline friend here too, with Ben trying to kidnap a kitten as it jumped all over our laps.

Today's plan is to find Luna beach which we saw signposted yesterday on our search for the bumpy road one and after our usual driving mishaps we find it. It's road is also bumpy and thin in some places but still not as bad as yesterday and the beach again is secluded and the water deep (a rarity on this island). Swimming and sun bathing follow till the tide comes in and soaks Ben and his towel. Still craving our sun fix, we are determined to find another beach so we scoot off, finding one, for the small price of drinks, with sun loungers :D

Ben goes off exploring again with no mishaps this time and carry on soaking up the sun till our food cravings get the better of us. Lunch for me is tofu with sweet and sour sauce which tasted delicious though sadly my stomach didn't agree and we managed to drive back faster than the speed of light before I throw up. Not great for the rest of that day but I'm pretty happy I managed over 3 weeks vom free. Mooching follows as I recover and tonight's dinner is nice and western to settle me and follow by pool, score card is currently 7-2 to Ben.
