Day 139 and 140: Canoes and Sunsets

Day 139

Oh it's so lovely being in paradise again! We wake up late unsuprisingly and both still a little groggy but we can hear the sea and the bluest of blue kind so who cares! We pancake for breakfast and then sunbath again, making sure we come back to the UK the colour of teak. After this we are on the hunt for a canoe, when we arrived yesterday we spotted a clear bottom one right near the harbour and it looks so cool. So after a quick walk back down we find a chap and get one for the morning.

They feel a little flimsy but it's actually good as it bends more in the waves and being see throug and the water so clear you can see everything! We set off and decide to paddle around to the front of our place. I say we but just like last time Ben does most of the work and is very good at it :D We see some pretty cool looking coral and fish but it's not till about half way round that we get really excited. We saw a couple snorkelling a head of us and skim past them so we don't hit them when they beckon is over and then I hear the best thing that I've heard heard in an Australian accent "There's a turtle over there"

What?!? We turn our canoe round and then there is was, a 60cm turtle just swimming underneath our canoe! It was just incredible. We didn't get any pictures as it moved too fast but just watching it was unreal, they move so gracefully. We carry on up to the jetty near us to see if we can see anymore but no luck. The coral and fish here are still pretty amazing though and see punt around checking it all out. We start to head back now and although it's a little choppier we make it back in one piece. After a quick lunch we sunbathe for the rest of the afternoon, interspersed with swims in the sea. Our tummies start rumbling so we go in search of BBQ fish and we aren't disappointed, hmmm tuna. I love this island.

Day 140

We were meant to be going to Gili Meno today, which is the island just next to this one but we've got to move room as they doubled booked us and we can't do that and get the boat at 8.30 so we decide after a morning of sunbathing to head off around the island to see what we can see.

We go the opposite way to how we normally walk to catch boats and things and see a whole different side to it all (pun intended). First off it's the usual restaurants and resorts but then at the top is opens up to white beaches and vast bits of sea. We carry on around till we find a nice spot to rest up and I get my tan on whilst Ben builds himself a coral reef. We start up again and are rewarded a view of Meno with a Bali volcano behind it, beautiful :)

This island is so sleepy and I love it, we carry on walking around seeing hardly anyone as we do. About 2/3 of the way round we meet where we get the boat from and then walk back, the whole thing takes about 2 hours and was lovely. We freshen up and then set up camp on the north beach to get some snaps of the sun set. We've seen a few beautiful places in this trip and many gorgeous sunsets but this is easily the most beautifulist one I have ever seen.

The way the colours merge in the sky and the back drop behind it, I'm mesmerised. Ben gets loads of snaps whilst I sit back and relax, taking it all in and making friends with a hermit crab. A perfect end to another island day.
